Manchester Frame Running Hub

For the past year or so I have been volunteering at Manchester Frame Running Hub which is run by Claire Buckle, of Ability Consultancy.  Initially myself and a friend Eva went along to the Manchester club with a view to gaining the skills needed to start up a club in Warrington, but that seems like a much bigger prospect than we thought and may be a long way off.

Frame Running provides people who require additional support (known as high support needs athletes), the
opportunity to participate in sport. It is for people who can not functionally run, with many of them being wheelchair users. Using a frame which is modified to suit each participants needs, there is the opportunity for people to propel themselves at speed down the track and feel the exhilaration that brings.

Some of the participants at club are recuperating from major back or hip surgery. As a physio I can see the obvious therapeutic benefits of attending the club – frame running is a fun way to take some weight through your legs, to get your muscles working hard, and to experience the cardio-vascular benefits. Exercising with friends, competing in fun challenges and races are much more motivational than conventional physiotherapy sessions.

Why not search for Frame Running clubs in your area?
